 Who laid these eggs?
« Thread Started on Dec 18, 2008, 9:42am »

I have the following birds in my aviary:

1 pair of Turqs
1 pair of Bourkes
1 pair of Cockatiels
1 pair of Princess Parrots
1 pair of King Quails

I keep finding blue-green coloured eggs on the floor and have no idea who is laying them. Any clues? They are rather large so I've ruled out the quails I think.

Cheers

Tony

Well that sounds odd. I thought quails had white eggs with some speckles/spots on them. i.e. in this picture.

If they belong to the quails, why aren't they sitting on them?

quail will not always lay all eggs in one spot, they scatter them at times, when broody they collect them in.

all parrot eggs are white.

any possibility a photo of the eggs?

Yes, I would agree it is definitely the Quails.

When I was younger and still living with my parents, we had a large aviary with a couple of pair of Quails on the floor. The females would lay many eggs, mostly the bluey-green colour that you describe, and then boot them all over the sandy aviary floor. It was hilarious to watch them kicking the eggs around like they were playing soccer or something.

They hatched quite a few tiny striped babies that used to run out of one hole in the wire, run along the edge and then go back into the aviary through another hole. They were so tiny. Ours were Kings too. :)

Confirmed quail eggs.

However, the first lot she sat on for 4 weeks before I pulled them to have a look. All yolk.

She has now laid another 10 but doesn't sit on them. What's up with that? Will they only sit on them at certain times of the year?

Hi Tony,
yes I got a surprise when I found our first quail egg, thought it was much to big to be the Quail's, but it surely was!!!! And shes still laying. We were away for a weekend and when I came back she was sitting but has come off the nest now and is laying again in every corner of the aviary. [image]
Hope we both get some babies soon.
