 Help! Lovebird Questions
« Thread Started on Oct 4, 2009, 8:24am »

Hi everyone,
recently, my lovebirds layed an egg. the only problme is, i don't know which ones are the parents! there is two normal ones and a whiteface blue one. i'm have no idea which ones are the parents. both of the normal ones have been in the nestbox incubating while the whiteface blue just hangs around outside.
HELP! :o

Hi Plumheadlover,
congratulations on your lovebird egg. Let's hope you get some chicks once they complete their clutch.

I would think the two that are in the nestbox would be the parents. They will be making sure the nest is just perfect for their young. I have a single lovebird so am not the best person to offer opinions at this stage, but others keep and breed lovebirds (Lewis for one), and can give you more information if you have not found it on the forum.

Don't panic! Just watch the process. You can learn such a lot by staying out of the way and letting your birds show you what they do. Intervention is called for usually only if there is a problem. Having said that, there are plenty of brilliant people on this forum who are only too happy to give you the benefit of their wisdom and experience.

Good luck, and keep us informed. Also, pics are definitely required when you have some little ones. [image]

Cheers, Shauna ;D

well there is a few solutions

1. watch the avairy closely to see who goes in but be aaware that lovebirds and svage critters sometime sand other birds go into other birds nests and break and smasht eh eggs and kill the babys

2. wait till the babys hatch and feather up and see what colours

3. now this is the most expensive one (which i wil soon be doing for my birds) is to get nestbox cams in the boxs and connected to you computer and then see who goes in what nestboxs

i will be doing the nestbox cams in my tiel boxs in the next few weeks so i dont have to go in the box all the time

Hi Plumheadlover,

If the whiteface blue one is allowed to "hang around" the entrance to the nest box I'd say it's a male bird and the two inside are hen's and not a pair, in my experience another male wouldn't allow the whiteface to hang around. You will know if more than the average number of eggs appear.

When breeding in a colony system there's never any guarantee that the male in the nest is really the genetic father, other males may and do mate with the hens when the hens partner isn't looking [image]

Hope I helped :)
