Hi All
I'm thinking about getting a pair of kakarikis (black eye yellow).
Are they a good bird to have? Hardy? Noisy? Community or single pair breeding?
They seem very tame when not handreared. Do they hand rear well?
I currently have quakers, gc conures, cockatiels and peachface. I have had range of finches, scalies, rainbows.
Thanks for your help.

Hi jojender, i have a pr of kaks (cinnamon) and they are one of the greatest birds in my flock they are fairly hardy not noisey at all and are best kept single pair per aviary. (if flocked together will need a large flight as the males will pick on eacother (dominance thing i think). my girl will come upto the mesh and eat out of my hands but the mae is still a bit warry, ive never handreared them before so i cant give you an answer on that. they are great birds and have a beautiful sweet call, are funny mischevous birds that will bring you joy so go ahead and get the kaks

Thanks Brodie.
I'm now the proud owner of a Pied + Yellow pair of Kakarikis!
They certainly look great in the aviary.....not to mention a hell of a lot more quiet than my quakers, peachies and green cheeks.
Fingers crossed.......
Thanks for your help.

Good on you for getting them they really are great birds if i had more room i would get a few more pairs. They are sooooo much quieter then my GCC's, tiels, princesses, alexes and galahs. when they are all going off i can hardly hear the kaks. hopefully they will makes lots of beautiful babies for you and bring you joy
